Athleticism: A

Has excellent speed for his size. Is very quick, agile, and fluid. Has great burst and long speed to pursue downfield. Should have jump off the charts at the Combine.

Coverage: C-

Is a decent cover corner but needs plenty of improvements in technique and intensity level. Was eaten up by Jared Abbrederis. Better in zone than man coverage but has the talent to be excellent in both aspects. Great hands, length, and leaping ability to get his hands on passes.

Physicality: C-

Played mostly in off coverage, but when asked to press was successful. A fairly physical defender, but would like to see more considering he allowed several contested catches where he was in tight. Used often on the blitz, with mixed results. Not the most engaged against the run. Will throw his body at the feet of runners and will gear down when the play is in front of him. However, made two impressive pursuit plays to chase down would be TDs against Michigan (2013).

Intangibles: D

Well experienced for just a junior, but is not a polished player. More athlete than football player. Character will need to be investigated considering the off-field incident that almost ended in his dismissal from the Buckeyes program.

Red Flags: Raw Talent, Character Concerns

Bottom Line: More athlete than football player, Roby has plenty of work to do before he lives up to his immense potential. Like former first-rounder Joe Haden, he has plenty of skill but is and yet a finished product, but if Haden’s story is anything to take into consideration, Roby could have a bright career ahead of him. Personally, I see a #2 corner as his inconsistent play won’t inspire confidence in his coaching staff to put him on an island against top receivers. Is a good fit for a press cover team.

Comparison: Joe Haden

Grade: 8.5 (2nd Round)
