Athleticism: B-
Has very good range and athleticism. However, does not take advantage of it. Needs to channel his raw talent into being more of a football player. Needs to clean up pursuit angles and positioning, to be more effective with his talent.
Coverage: D
Consistently got beaten in man coverage, did not look to much better in zone. Does not have particularly good ball skills. Couldn’t hang with Jace Amaro, but did deliver a punishing clean hit after the catch.
Physicality: B-
Aggressive run defender. Heavy hitter for such a lean looking frame. Rarely wrap tackles. Leads with his shoulder and helmet far too often. Was ejected from TCU game for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Trevone Boykin. Will shove tackle and completely whiff and be out of position. Experienced blitzer. Has the tools to succeed in that area.
Intangibles: D-
Commits far too many penalties, and plays undisciplined. Needs to improve his football IQ. Needs to be reined in by NFL coaches.
Red Flags: Raw Talent
Bottom Line: A very good athlete, who has yet to become a very good football player. Either the Baylor coaching staff has neglected to polish his game, or he has refused to take direction, since he plays out of control and out of position. Has plenty of upside, and is a player who would’ve been viewed differently five years ago when hitting was allowed on receivers. Fits best as a strong safety.
Comparison: Michael Huff
Grade: 7.6 (5th Round)
