Pass Blocking: C-

Did not allow a sack in film study, but the tools aren’t exactly elite. Not the best athlete, nor particularly agile. Needs to improve footwork and to stay on his feet better to enjoy the same level of success he has.

Run Blocking: B+

A very good run blocker for a college center. Has very good strength and played very well vs. Anthony Johnson and Ego Ferguson in his final game for the Razorbacks. Will end up on the ground far too often, and is a concern moving forward. Needs to square up better when blocking downfield, but is lethal when he does

Technique: C+

Has strong hands and will is not afraid to use them. Effective hands fighter. Could come off of the ball lower, and maintain better leverage. Tends to lunge a bit, especially in space.

Intangibles: A

Started all 50 games of his collegiate career. Smart, with good football character. Has with good effort and intensity. Recognized in a conference with plenty of stiff competition.

Red Flags: none

Bottom Line: Had a good showing at Senior Bowl week by all accounts, but struggled more at guard. Good, experienced centers are hard to come by through the draft, so Swanson may find himself at the top end of the second round, being one of the better prospects at the position. Projects best to a power running scheme and should be a long-term starter.

Comparison: Peter Konz

Grade: 8.5 (2nd Round)
