Beast Mode, Blowout or Redemption? Seahawks-Saints Promises to Deliver

The Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints have a history. It was three years ago during the playoffs that the Saints came to Seattle and Marshawn Lynch earned his nickname “Beast Mode” with his 67-yard touchdown run that triggered seismic activity in the Pacific Northwest when 12th men and women everywhere jumped up and down in unison.

Another page in the Saints/Seahawks history book was written during their Monday Night Football matchup back in December that had New Orleans return to Seattle. There was a lot of talk about the matchup since Seattle has one of the best defenses in the NFL and the Saints are well-known for an explosive offense. Well, they were well-known for that until Seattle’s defense made Brees and the Saints ask not “Who dat?” but “What the hell WAS that?!?”

The 34-7 beat-down that the Hawks gave the Saints had even Seattle’s naysayers jumping on their growing bandwagon.

But in football, every dog has its day, and on any given Sunday (or Monday, Thursday, and during the playoffs, Saturday) any team can topple a Goliath of an opponent. That’s what the Saints are hoping for when they return to Centurylink Field this Saturday.

But one of Seattle’s mottos is that ‘the separation is in the preparation’, so you can bet that before Drew Brees had gone back to the locker room after New Orleans beat Philadelphia 26 -24, Russell Wilson was watching film and studying-up.

And while Saints coach Sean Payton is painting Seahawk logos on their practice field and letting them eat cheesy mac for their team dinner, Pete Carroll may also have a secret weapon up his sleeve in anticipation of the matchup.

You see, in Seattle there are two things people want to know: What type of gum does Coach Carroll chew and will Percy Harvin make an appearance during the playoffs?

Harvin hasn’t been seen since Seattle played his old team the Minnesota Vikings in November, whom the Seahawks beat 41-20. Percy has fully participated in practice this week, although Pete’s played coy on whether or not he will play.

Keep in mind that the Seahawks got 12 out of their 13 wins without Harvin. They even beat the Saints without him, but Harvin is the Ferrari in Seattle’s garage – they don’t drive it every day, but when they do, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!

On Saturday, will Russell Wilson show his stuff? Will Marshawn go beast mode? Will Richard Sherman get a pick six? Will the Saints be begging for mercy when Seattle unleashes Percy?

Drew Brees and the Saints may be looking for some redemption after their embarrassing loss last month but the Seahawks are looking for a bit of redemption themselves. This team is hungry to make it past the playoffs and prove that they are not a flash in the pan, they are the real deal.

We won’t know until game time what this Seattle/New Orleans matchup will bring, but if history is any indicator, this is going to be a game to remember.
