Kyrie Irving to Undergo MRI on Left Knee

The Cleveland Cavaliers are holding their breathe as All-Star guard Kyrie Irving is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left knee on Wednesday after leaving Tuesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers after injuring the knee in the third quarter. Irving was attempting a layup in the third quarter when his knee appeared to give out and he crumpled to the floor in pain.  He was helped off the court, and though he was cleared by a team physician and played in the fourth quarter, he still didn’t feel right after the game.

”When I went back it still didn’t feel right,” said Irving, who finished with 10 points, five assists and five rebounds in 35 minutes. ”I thought the worst happened. I felt something pop in my knee. I was falling down around all over the place. It was a painful experience. I was praying to God everything was OK. I just have to hope for the best. We’ll see what’s going on.”

”It’s probably something slight, if anything at all,” Irving said. ”I’m going to hope for the best, honestly. Right now, it’s a little bit of a painful experience but it’s something I’ll get through.”

Injuries have been a concern throughout Irving’s career.  Over the past two and a half seasons, the former first overall pick in the NBA Draft has missed 38 games with injuries including a broken nose, broken jaw, broken finger, sprained knee, sprained shoulder and concussion. He played in only 11 games as a freshman at Duke because of a foot injury.

Irving has played in every game so far this season, playing with a mask earlier in the year due to a broken nose.
