Seahawks: The Best in the NFC West Clinch Home Field Advantage

Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks showed they were all in and grabbed destiny by the horns during their match-up against the St. Louis Rams – winning 27-9 and earning the NFC West Championship and home field advantage during the playoffs.

The Seahawks had everything to gain on Sunday and needed to bring it against the  Rams – let’s face it, the Seahawks had something to prove after their disappointing loss the week before against the Arizona Cardinals.

In a big “not in OUR house fashion,” Seattle’s defense came out on fire – and a pick six when Malcom Smith intercepted the ball and ran it in for a 37-yard touchdown started things off with a boom.

Now the victory against the Rams wasn’t a perfectly played game by the Seahawks but it was a good game.

The last time these two teams met up in St. Louis on Monday Night Football, Seattle was able to get the win, but the Rams rushed for 200 yards – this time around, the Hawks were able to hold them to a mere 13 yards. As Richard Sherman would say, the Seahawks “Shut them down.”

Offense started slow but stuck to the run game until they got their mojo back. Marshawn Lynch showed the Ram defense what a beast he was by plowing through them and running for 97 yards.

Russell Wilson, fresh off his nomination to the Pro Bowl, got back into the groove  after his rather lack luster performance against Arizona. His beautiful pass down the sidelines to Golden Tate for a 47-yard touchdown was a reminder of how good this kid is.

And what about Mr. Golden “I’m not waving” Tate? No taunting this game, Golden  (who I still think should change his name to Platinum) has had a career high this season  of 64 catches and 898 yards. He not only made that great touchdown pass but several other receptions that turned into gains for his team’s offense.

There’s still no time for sleep for this Seahawk team. This week they will be busy preparing for whomever they match-up against on January 11 at the Clink. Their opponent will not be known until Sunday.

It will either be the San Francisco 49ers, the Green Bay Packers or the New Orleans Saints.

Any of these three teams matched up against Seattle promises to be an amazing playoff game.

The Seahawks and 49ers have a mutual detest for one another and their fans have a hate/hate relationship as well. Seattle’s 12th man bought a brick in the 49ers new stadium and hired a plane to fly a 12th Man Banner over Candlestick during their December match-up. Not to be outdone, the 49er fans rented an electronic billboard in Washington that has a picture of five Lombardi trophies and a “Got Lombardi’s?” message that flashes intermittently along Interstate 5 in Washington. Unfortunately the 49er fans, unfamiliar with Seattle, ended up renting a billboard in Fife, Wa., which is about 25 miles south of the Emerald City and in a different county all together.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers also have something to prove against the Seahawks—undoubtedly, they are still upset about  last year’s Golden Tate immaculate reception.

Drew Brees and the Saints are also likely seeking some vengeance after the 34 -7 beat down the Seahawks put on them for the entire nation to see on Monday Night Football.

Regardless of the match-up – Seattle is a team that gets the work done and will be ready. This Seahawks team has already broken several franchise records ending the regular season at 12-3. and although they are no longer unbeaten at home, with the proven loudest crowd in the NFL on their side,  they are sure pretty tough to beat and the road to the Super Bowl goes through Seattle.
