Last Word On Memes: The Leafs in the Market?

To say the Toronto media has been down on the Toronto Maple Leafs is as big of an understatement as Rob Ford’s Unicronian appetite for… well… whatever vice tickles his fancy at any given moment. Reporters have been cascading criticism on the Buds, most of which is deserving given their recent string of results.  And this couldn’t come at a worse time (actually, it could – let’s say this were late March/early April) as the Leafs are set to battle the Detroit Red Wings from the Big House in Michigan.  And for anyone tuning into HBO’s “24/7”, you would note that Randy Carlyle agrees with the criticism, even going so far as to yelling “we suck” at his team.

The Leafs are 2-5-1 in their last 8 games, 1-6-3 on the road in their last 10 and are being outscored 35-19 in that stretch.  While the team is still flirting with potential playoff hockey the ship must be righted quickly.  At last check the team has just three regulation time wins in the last 25 games. Let that sink in.

Much speculation is surfacing about whether the team is in the market for some scoring help, hence the somewhat witty meme, and Sam Gagner’s name has been floated around amongst others. It’s uncertain if they will make a splash sooner rather than later. What is for certain is that the pressure on Randy’s boys to produce is escalating.
