Back To Reality:
It was nice while it lasted but all good things must come to an end. Maybe it was foolish to think the Bucs could beat the Panthers. Quite possibly Bucs fans, including myself, got caught up in the moment and started forgetting that the team just isn’t very good. The Panthers not only won the game but did so in dominating fashion 27-6. The Panthers have increased their win streak to 8 games sweeping the Bucs in both meetings this season.
Schiano’s Future:
Over the last few weeks I have backed down on criticizing Coach Schiano. The difference between now and then, the team was winning. This is a man who is 10-17 as a NFL head coach and 68-67 as a College coach. I think it is fair to ask if he is really qualified to be coaching at this level? Is he talented enough to be a head coach in the NFL? I think the answer is no.
I don’t blame Schiano for the loss against Carolina, as the Panthers are a really good team, playing solid football right now. However, I do blame him for the nine losses this season and the nine last season. The lack of halftime adjustments alone is enough to question his coaching. Should he keep his job? I don’t thank he should, but my feeling is he will.
The Bucs have four more games Buffalo, San Francisco, St. Louis, New Orleans. I would hope they could win all four, but lets be honest thats not going to happen. You could say there is a real chance the Bucs could finish 3-13. Raheem Morris was fired after a 4-12 season. Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy were both fired after 9-7 seasons. Thats just a little perspective. If the Bucs do lose out, I don’t see how or why Schiano should stay around next season. Its not like he’s considered some kinda football genius. On the contrary, he is considered to be a hard-ass coach with a my way or the highway mentality. #FireSchiano
Glennon Still A Rookie
Up until Sunday I had thought Mike Glennon layed very well. I’m going to cut him a little slack after Sunday’s game. He’s a rookie playing a very good Panthers defense on the road. Without starters such as Carl Nicks, Mike Williams, and Doug Martin. What more can you expect from a rookie. So the Question is should he remain the starting QB for the future? To be clear nothing scares me more than drafting QBs high. I think the Bucs have more holes to fill, they need depth is some key positions. I would keep Glennon as the QB for next season. He might never be Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Aaron Rodgers; but I do thing with some time to develop and the right pieces around him he could become a decent quarterback.
The QB’s
Mike Glennon 14/21, 180 YDS, 1 INT, 1 Fumble
Cam Newton 18/19, 263 YDS, 2 TD, 2 INT, 68 YDS Rushing 1 TD
Revis Injury Prone?
Darrelle Revis was taken to the locker room after injuring his shoulder and chest in the third quarter of the Bucs game against Carolina. Revis was listed as questionable the week leading up to the Carolina game with a groin injury. I think I can speak for all Bucs fans, when I say I hold my breath every time he goes to the ground. Hoping its not his ACL. I like what Revis brings to the Bucs. My hope if after a full season of play under his belt this off-season can be spent polishing himself back up.
This defence has so much potential with players like Revis, Gerald McCoy, Adrian Clayborn, Lavonte David, Mason Foster, Mark Barron, Dashon Goldson. But all that potential does not mean anything. Until they play together as one, Until they recognize the opportunity they have and take advantage of it they’re going to continue to be an overpaid disappointment
Whats Next?
My opinion fire the coach and both co-ordinators. Look long and hard for a new head coach. Look at the players you have and their skill sets. Find a coach who can actually coach and lead your players, someone who can motivate and bring the best out of them. Look #ItsABucsLife win or lose. But in football W’s are the only things that matter. Looking at Greg Schiano’s head coaching record in college and in the NFL it’s clear to see, less than mediocre is the best fans can expect from him in the future.
