It seemed to just happen yesterday. A team built together that was predicted to go far have yet to show us how they are going to get there. That team would be the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets gained a team which involves Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Brook Lopez and other extraordinary players. They also gained a new coach, former Nets player, Jason Kidd.
It isn’t to say that the coaching is the reason for the Nets being unsuccessful but it is certainly a start. Coming into the season, Kidd was suspended for the first two games for his DUI which wasn’t very smart. Kidd must set an example for all of his players, especially the rising superstar, Deron Williams. Kidd affects ALL of his players, which means, KG and Pierce are more likely to not listen to their new coach if he isn’t being responsible himself. Kidd is a FORMER player, and gaining the position just coming out of retirement as a coach means he must become more responsible with his actions. Once he gets his priorities straight, they may become a better team but as a rookie coach, this will take him time.
It seems as if the Nets just keep dropping like flies which put a gigantic hold in their plans to become one of the greatest teams in the league. One of the top-notch centers in the league, Brook Lopez, dropped which left them only the veteran KG to pull in their rebounds and blocked shots. Pierce was hurt recently, his age also hurting him, but thankful for the Nets, Pierce has returned. The star and leader of the Brooklyn Nets, Deron Williams, also dropped. However, Williams should be back soon which will help the Nets tremendously.
Age and injuries are mostly what is stopping this team from being the team they can become if they strive their hardest each and every day. Williams has always been a great leader and once he returns, we, as fans and analysts, will have something to talk about because Williams is one of the greatest leaders in the entire NBA. Also, having veterans that can lead the Nets will also help lead them in the right direction. Jason Kidd can be a great leader which is why he was hired so quick so once he figures out his priorities, he will also help lead this team in the right direction.
After finally picking up a win over the Toronto Raptors, the Nets still have a horrifying record of 4-10 which did not seem possible at all for this team at the start of the season. Is this the start of the team’s turnaround? Many expected them to be at the top; obviously, many weren’t even close. The Nets are an underdog team at the moment but maybe once they get everyone back on the floor and healthy, they will have a chance at making the playoffs. Right now, it isn’t looking good, but a team containing Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Brook Lopez should never be counted out of anything.
