A subdued Hump Day today. The Giants season was likely put on ice where bad habits returned, inexplicable turnovers returned, dumb penalties remained and execution came and went at various points, all of which explains the Giants hanging on the frayed ends of their playoff rope. Such is life. Let’s go.
Brown’s Injury Was a Huge Mark on This Season: There are two players that the Giants must re-sign, and neither are Nicks (who appears to be saving himself for free agency; he has a foot and a half out of the door already) or Tuck (even though it’d be a crime to see him leave). But Jon Beason and Andre Brown has totally changed the look of this team. Brown was a monster on Sunday and it stands to once again wondering what the Kevin Gilbride’s game plan was in inexplicably abandoning the run game when he and Brandon Jacobs were eating the Cowboys alive. Brown is a bad, bad man. He could’ve been the answer early on and this season could’ve been looking at a much different season. With an awful Redskins team in his way on Sunday night, expect a POed Brown to do a nice dose of damage.
No Baas, No Cordle: Hello, Kevin Boothe? With Baas and Cordle both on season-ending IR, the offensive line seemed to crank it up a bit when Boothe stepped in. It’s no secret that I’m no fan of David Baas or Jim Cordle, so I am intrigued to see if Boothe could be the guy making the calls on the line, because they seem to click when he’s in there.
No More Talking: Talk is cheap. Play the game. It did no good going in, and even though the statistics said that the Giants should have won the game, it’s the little things that matter so much. And it blew up in their faces.
Final Word: Not a whole lot to talk about this week, but it seems fortunate for the Giants that they are facing a Redskins team who is far more beleaguered than they are. Washington seems to be backing up their escape vehicles on this season and the Giants are clearly the better team right now. They’ll take care of business and will keep their faint playoff hopes alive for another week, 31-17.
