The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed free-agent pitcher Dan Haren to a one-year contract worth $10 million. The deal has a vesting option for a second year if Haren pitches 180 innings in 2014.
Haren is coming off a 10-14 season with the Washington Nationals. He posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. However his numbers show a significant difference in the first and second half.
The 33-year-old Haren put up a 6.15 ERA in the first half of the year. After a short stint on the disabled list with pain and inflammation in his shoulder, he returned and put up a 3.29 ERA from July through September.
The Dodgers are likely to use Haren as their fifth starter behind Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Josh Beckett.
