When the year 2000 kicked off we had so many choices of what to watch. We had the World Wrestling Federation, no doubt dominating wrestling at the time. We had World Championship Wrestling which was still okay, had a lot of young talented wrestlers but dying and Extreme Championship Wrestling, which was also dying in the year 2000 but nobody really knew yet. So many wrestling shows to watch and choose from: WWF RAW, Smackdown, Sunday Night Heat, Jakked/Metal, WCW Nitro, Thunder, World Wide, WCW Saturday Night, ECW on TNN and ECW Hardcore TV. So many great matches to pick from in the 2000s here is my list.
#5 Triple H vs The Rock Judgment Day 2000 Iron Man Match
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP4QnRA0K2E
And what a match it was. I have not watched this match in over five years but I remember being a 16 year old kid and just not being able to take my eyes off this match. No doubt I was hooked, WWF had me by then but this was a old school Pro Wrestling match. Both men at the top of their game, both wanting to be the top dog in the WWF at the time. That’s why this match is on my list.
#4 TLC SummerSlam 2000 Hardys vs Dudleys vs Edge and Christian
It was WWF tag team wrestling hardcore matches at its best. It was Tables Ladders and Chairs oh my. We saw Jeff hardy take some sick bumps off the Ladder, Bubba Ray Dudley tossed through the tables at ringside. No doubt one of my favorite TLC matches WWF at the time ever did.
#3 Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle Royal Rumble 2003
Have they had better matches? Maybe on a different show but this was one of the best matchesIi have seen from them. They both worked so well in the ring together. Epic matches they had. If you have not seen this match find it on the WWE Royal Rumble Complete Anthology Vol. IV. It’s an awesome pure wrestling match.
#2 Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar Iron man Match Smackdown 2003
In one of the greatest matches ever contested in SmackDown history, these two warriors give it their all out there. Laying it all on the line in a erestling fans dream match at a time when both Angle and Lesnar were in the prime of their careers. Still to this day one of my favorite matches to watch. Pop in the WWE Best of Smackdown DVD and enjoy.
#1 HBK Shawn Michaels vs Triple H SummerSlam 2002
It was the return after four years away from the WWE. HBK’s last match at that point was at Wrestlemania XIV. I was shocked he returned. I could not believe this was really happening. As a 12 year old kid in 1996, HBK Shawn Michaels was one of my all time favorites (still is to this day) and he was returning to the ring. I did not take my eyes of the TV. I was scared and worried for Shawn taking back bumps. I did not know if and what he was risking returning to the ring. HHH played a great part in this match. Before the match both guys were best friends and had never worked against with each other much. HBK looked great and HHH put him over. HBK got the win but HHH got the last laugh at the end of the match. Check out this match, it was awesome.
Hope you all enjoyed my list. Other matches that did not make my list but deserve a mentio:
