Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to the #41 Maurice Petty Hall of Fame Inductee Ford driven by Aric AlmiroiaMaurice Petty is a renowned engine builder.  Special mention to the #55 Chevrolet driven this week by Elliot Sadler……………  Richard Petty Motorsports development driver, Corey LaJoie has been suspended indefinitely and ordered to take sensitivity training after a stupid tweet.  LaJoie tweeted that the TSA should give a “cavity search” to anyone wearing a turban……………  Richard Petty Motorsports has also fired Aric Almiroia’ Crew Chief, Todd Parrott for a violation of the NASCAR substance abuse program.  Parrott has entered NASCAR’s “Road to Recovery” Program……………  From NASCAR’s biggest track to NASCAR’s smallest:  Martinsville is a 0.525 mile track with 12 degree banking in all 4 turns.  The track’s first NASCAR race was held in 1949 and won by Red Byron……………  In the Chase standings, Jimmie Johnson now leads Matt Kenseth by 4 points.  Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are next, 26 points behind with Jeff Gordon 34 points behind………….  Matt Kenseth wrecked while testing on Tuesday in Texas.  Kenseth stated that a right front tire let go causing the crash.  Kenseth was not injured in the crash but had his 2-day testing cut short……………  Prediction:  This is the week will we will likely see Brad Keselowski take out some revenge on Kyle Busch.  If I’m Busch, I’d do my best to stay far away from the #2 car on Sunday……………  In spite of receiving a two lap warning to pit, Danica Patrick seemed to be looking to blame someone besides herself for her costly speeding penalty on pit road.  In an explicit laced radio transmission, Patrick was angry; at who was unclear.   Sorry Danica, this one is on you.  By the way, her average finish this season is 26th.  Not good for the ride she’s on……………  Junior Johnson has been named the Grand Marshall for the Goody’s 500 on Sunday.  The North Carolina State Band will perform the National Anthem prior to the race.……………  Six vintage post-World War II planes will provide the flyover on Sunday.  The flyover will be performed by the Warbirds…………….  The weather forecast for Sunday in Martinsville, Virginia calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 63F (17C)……………  TV coverage in the US will start at 1:30 on ESPN.  Canadian viewers can see the race on TSN.
