This was a week of walking around in total astonishment and disbelief. How did this happen? Why did this happen? Did this really just happen? Of course!.. it was a terrible nightmare. But then the reality set in – we lost, plain and simple.
It is what it is, and in the scheme of things a loss builds character and can humble a team and its players. On the positive side, it makes the next win (and the many more that follow) that much sweeter. The should have, would have and could have theory doesn’t really matter at this point. Recognizing what went wrong in order to move on is the key to success.
Now is where I go into my Couch Gangsta mode – the mode where we all are a head coach, offensive/defensive coordinator, referee, play caller and at some point in the game we all throw that red flag. We “couch” officiate, and who has a better vantage point than us? There was some piss poor officiating going on through out entire game. I can understand that they can’t be a bad call from time to time, but damn it, if there is a booth review for every touchdown, then maybe there needs to be one for every little yellow flag that comes out of an officials hand.
I saw QB Drew Brees left to the wolves at times, (come on you have the title Guard and Tackle for a reason). I saw Tight end Jimmy Graham completely shut down (apparently Belichick makes his players watch tape of the opposing team before they play them). On the other hand I guess they forgot we have more than one tight end and his name is Benjamin Watson. He did an outstanding job.
I saw the way Patriots take advantage of the no huddle knowing exactly what to do and where to go, and a Saints D that couldn’t get into formation quick enough. I realized that we need to have in place a plan for a worst case scenario kind of game so we make the necessary adjustments early on. We need to do a better job on 3rd down conversions and capitalizing on turnovers, we need to be more effective. However, I saw a run game that was a long time coming. Darren Sproles put on a hell of a show, breaking tackles maneuvering his way through defender’s, doing whatever he needed to get down the field.
We also saw two career first touchdowns by Travaris Cadet and Khiry Robinson proving to those who said we didn’t have the run in us we did. I saw greatness in WR Kenny Stills making a crucial catch in a very tight situation. I also see a great future for fellow WR Nick Toon once he gets his grip so to speak.
In essence, a bye week is just what we needed. To regroup, refocus, renew and refresh. And with the possibility of Jonathan Vilma return soon, every opponent from week 8 and on better be on point (I can guarantee We Will)
I have one last matter that I need to address: the “Tom Brady is a HERO” because he threw the game winning TD. First off all, Tom Brady did not run into a 12-story apartment building engulfed in flames to rescue a litter of pups. He did what he gets paid to do. It’s his job. Funny how Brady gets all the credit and the rookie who actually caught the ball seens to get very little credit – Kenbrell Thompkins. His name is THOMPKINS! Let’s be honest with ourselves (I’m talking to you analyst, critics) that game was won by pure luck, not by skill. Thats my opinion and I’m sticking to it. – Who Dat
