Fuel it Up! Ricky Bobby, Blood Clots and Drugs

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to Ricky Bobby, I mean Kurt Busch in the #78 Furniture Row/Wonder Bread Chevrolet.  Runner up goes to Dale Earnhardt Jr., who will be driving the #88 Mountain Dew/Xbox Chevrolet……………  Speaking of Furniture Row, reports say that Martin Truex Jr. has agreed to drive for them next season…………….  Brian Vickers, out once again with a blood clot in his leg, will be replaced for the remaining 2013 schedule by Elliot Sadler…………….  The NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule was released this week with very few changes.  The only changes were that the Kansas and Darlington races switched dates, and the Texas race was moved from a Saturday night to a Sunday afternoon.  It’s expected that the 2015 schedule will indeed have more changes since it will be NBC’s first year back in NASCAR……………  NASCAR announced that its high tech “Air Titan” will be at all tracks in 2014…………….  Aric Almirola’s Crew Chief, Todd Parrot has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for violating its substance-abuse policy……………  The University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech have agreed to play a football game at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016.  They hope to draw 160,000 fans to the event……………  Matt Kenseth continues to lead the driver standings by just 4 points over Jimmie Johnson. Kevin Harvick is next, down 29 points followed by Jeff Gordon, 36 points behind, and Kyle Busch, 37 points behind……………  44 cars have been entered for the Camping World RV Sales 500 on Sunday…………… Camping World and Good Sam Enterprises Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis will be the Grand Marshall for Sunday’s race.  Lemonis is also the star of CNBC’s Prime’s Reality Series, The Profit……………  Sunday’s race from Talladega can be seen in the US on ESPN and in Canada on TSN2 starting at 1:00 pm……………  The weather forecast for Sunday in Alabama calls for Sunny skies with temperatures reaching 72f (22c).
