Anibal Sanchez and Friends Nearly No-Hit the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALCS

Anibal Sanchez and four other Detroit Tigers Pitchers combined to take a no hitter into the bottom of the ninth inning at Fenway Park, helping the Detroit Tigers to a 1-0 win and 1-0 series lead in the ALCS.

With one out in the ninth Daniel Nava broke up the no-hit bid with a bloop single to center off of Tigers closer Joaquin Benoit.  Benoit would retire the next two batters, stranding pinch runner Quintin Berry at second base, after he stole his way into scoring position.

Sanchez started the game and pitched six innings of no-hit baseball with six walks.  His high pitch count forced him out of the game though, and Al Albuquerque, Jose Veras, and Drew Smiley would combine for two perfect innings to get the ball to Benoit with the no-no in tact.

The Tigers scored the only run of the game on an RBI single by Jhonny Peralta that scored Miguel Cabrera.

The game also featured a brilliant over the shoulder catch by Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew, which absolutely robbed Prince Fielder of an RBI hit.
