Fuel it Up Kansas II

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

Who says Danica Patrick never wins?  The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to Patrick in the #10 Go Daddy Chevrolet………….  Nelson Piquet Jr. has been fined $10,000 by NASCAR for tweeting a gay slur.  He’s also been required to take sensitivity training as well.  Piquet has apologized for his actions…………… Penske Racing was penalized for Joey Logano’s Nationwide car failing post-race inspection.  Penske was fined 6 owners points and Crew Chief Jeremy Bullins was fined $10,000 because the front of the car was too low……………  Brad Keselowski and Penske Racing have signed a 24-race extension with Miller.  The #2 car needs to find a sponsor for 12 of other Sprint Cup races…………….  Kyle Larson, who will replace Juan Pablo Montoya next season, will make his Sprint Cup debut for Phoenix Racing at Charlotte in October. Larson will also drive the #51 car later this season in Martinsville…………….  It still looks like a 3 person race for the Chase.  Matt Kenseth leads Jimmie Johnson by 8 points and Kyle Busch is right there only 12 points behind.  Next are Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon, both 39 points behind Kenseth…………….  5-Hour Energy has announced it will stick with Clint Bowyer……………  NASCAR’s newest track dryer, the Air Titan will be at Kansas Motor Speedway this weekend……………  Matt Kenseth has won the last two races at Kansas as he looks to increase his points lead.  The two victories ties him with Jeff Gordon and, yep you guessed it, Jimmie Johnson for most victories.  Kyle Busch on the other hand has only one top 10 finish at Kansas……………  Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has been named the Grand Marshall for the Hollywood Casino 400 Sunday afternoon.……………  The weather forecast for Kansas Sunday afternoon calls for partly cloudy skies with highs near 60f (15c)……………  The race can be seen in the US on ESPN starting at 2:00pm.  For Canadian viewers the race can be seen on TSN2 at 2:00 pm.
