The certain thing about the 2013-2014 season is that it will be vastly different than the previous one. Apart from all the major changes in the teams’ rosters and the balances between them, there are some top class players who will be returning to action next season, after missing a large portion of the season due to injuries. Let’s break down who these top players are and what impact they will have for their respective teams.
First we will look at Kobe Bryant from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Black Mamba will be very important to the team next season, and the reason is that Kobe will be the lone leader of the team. He will have to carry a big load on the offensive end and the Lakers will rely on him heavily. After the departure of Dwight Howard and all the changes in the roster, the Los Angeles Lakers will need their leader to step up and try to help the team maintain a high level of performance. Kobe is a superstar returning from injury who will draw much attention on him. We can expect him and the Lakers being under the scope in 2013-2014.
Another big name superstar and a leader of his team who will return from a season-ending injury is Derrick Rose. The explosive point guard is a big difference-maker for the Chicago Bulls. The team looks vastly different with him on-board. Rose was rumored to be returning during the previous season’s playoffs, but that never happened. Now, he will have to take over again and return to his MVP-caliber performance, if the Chicago Bulls want to record a championship run. Rose’s impact to the team is so great that the Bulls will now instantly become one of the best, the most powerful teams in the Eastern Conference instead of simply entering the playoffs.
Rose’s fellow superstar point guard and All-Star Rajon Rondo will also return from a season-ending injury in the 2013-2014 season. The reality he will have to face in the Boston Celtics team of course is significantly different from the previous season. Rondo will now be the main piece of the C’s, after the team traded away Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Although the Celtics lost much power during the offseason, Rondo’s presence is enough to put the team in a position to win and be powerful. Alongside Jeff Green, Avery Bradley and the rest of the crew, Rondo will try to show the way to the new era for the Boston Celtics.
Russell Westbrook is the last superstar we will examine in this article. The energetic point guard suffered an injury during the playoffs last season and that was costly for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite all his efforts, Kevin Durant couldn’t lead the team to success and the Thunder got eliminated in the second round. Now, Westbrook will have to prove that he and Durant are sufficient weapons to lead the Thunder to another championship push.
