It seems as if Patrice Bergeron is closing in on a full 100% recovery. The center player tore his rib cartilage, suffered a broken rib, separated his shoulder as well as punctured his lung during the Stanley Cup playoffs. He took the summer to recover with intense physiotherapy, lots of gym training and recently started skating on the ice.
Bergeron, who is currently at the training camp for Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey team said that he is about 95% fully recovered and that he is around where he hoped to be at the start of his recovery. He has been back on the ice on occasions and says he should be ready for the Boston training camp which starts in under two weeks. Bergeron said he will definitely be 100% ready for the start of the opening season in October.
The Boston Bruins have lost many key players after the season was over including Tyler Seguin, Nathan Horton, Andrew Ference, Anton Khudobin, Rich Peverley and Jaromir Jagr. People are starting to believe that this will lead to a not so good season for the Boston Bruins. The team has made the playoffs for the past three years, winning once and getting to the finals on the third year but it was because of the key players who helped score the goals.
This year most of those key players who helped Boston Bruins excel are gone because they were traded or left as free agents. They have acquired some new blood but the question remains will all these changes be enough for the team to achieve their goals? I think it could be enough to get a top spot if the players will work together but only the season will show the progress.
This season, especially with new conferences, every team has a clean start. The season will start off with zeros across the board and the players will fight to earn the top spots and make it into the playoffs. In other words the slate is wiped clean and anything can happen, top teams can hit rock bottom and vice versa.
Bergeron was a key player all last season and post season. He scored many goals and helped his team many times to victories. One of the key goals that Bergeron scored was that final goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs in sudden death of game seven, after the team struggled to tie the game 3-3 (Bruins won 4-3). Because of his play at both ends of the rink he had he was signed to an eight year contract extension leading to the year 2021-2022. If Bergeron is on his game like he was all last season, it is no doubt that his return will excite Boston Bruins fans all around.
The new season is just a few months away and I cannot wait to see if Boston GM Peter Chiarelli has made a good decision in which players to keep and players to let go of. Only time will tell but the season excitement has already started in every city.
