Fuel it Up Bristol II: Montoya to Indy, Keselowski Brothers and Stewart Update

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to the #16 3M AAD Car Care Ford driven by Greg Biffle.  Special mention goes to the #40 Hillman Racing Chevrolet driven by Landon Cassill…………… Tony Stewart continues to heal from injuries suffered while driving a sprint car.  He said this week that he plans to continue to drive the dirt tracks in the future.  Stewart believes that running the sprint cars makes him better at running the NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars.  It sure does seem strange watching the #14 car knowing “Smoke” isn’t behind the wheel…………….  Could Juan Pablo Montoya be headed back to IndyCars?  Michael Andretti has told the Associated Press that that he is trying to find a sponsor to bring Montoya to IndyCar with Andretti Autosports.  “I have talked to Juan and told him let’s find a way to put something together.”……………  Nationwide driver Eric McClure has been diagnosed with acute renal failure.  McClure, 34, was hospitalized on August 12th Jeff Green has taken over the #14 Hefty Toyota in his place.  McClure was released from the hospital this week and is expected to make a full recovery……………  Brian Keselowski, brother of defending Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski will be making his Bristol Sprint Cup debut Saturday night.  The brothers will join the Busch boys on the track.  NASCAR has had many brother teams in its history.  Many have been huge successes. They include:

  • Bobby and Donnie Allison
  • Todd, Brett, and Geoff Bodine
  • Ward and Jeff Burton
  • Terry and Bobby Labonte
  • Phil and Benny Parsons
  • Maurice and Richard Petty
  • Michael and Darrel Waltrip

A Columbus Georgia businessman, John Teeples will serve as Grand Marshall for the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night.  Motor Racing Outreach will organize the Sprint Cup drivers children to sing the National Anthem prior to the race.……………  The weather forecast for Bristol, Tennessee for Saturday night calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures 75f (24c)……………  The race can be seen live on ABC and TSN at 7:30 p.m.Saturday.
