Bye-Bye Benny?

Benoit Assou Ekotto hasn’t featured in many of the preseason games at Tottenham, and now he is dropping some hints on his twitter page on how he could be leaving.

Assou Ekotto had an indifferent season last year and was often replaced by Kyle Naughton. Danny Rose has featured in most of the preseason games this year and looks to be “Benny’s” replacement. Is this a good decision by Andre Villas-Boas? In my opinion, I rate Benoit more than Rose. Though, Rose is younger and could grow to be even better than him in the next few seasons, and returns from a good loan over at Sunderland.

In the game against Espanyol recently, Rose played pretty well. He was given a tough time as the ball was constantly launched at him, as Espanyol knew their player could win the ball in the air against Rose, mainly because of his size. However, his pace and strength on the ground saw him do a good job on the left side.

Benny is a rather colourful character on twitter, one rather partial to a bit of casual flirting with the female Spurs fans. He sent messages to one particular account basically saying he wasn’t in AVB’s plans. While this isn’t nowhere near official, nor the truth, it does sound warning to the Cameroonian defender’s future.

I’ll be sad to see him go.  The flamboyant left back was unstoppable on his best game, but not so good on his worst games. Some have not so favourable opinions on Benny, but in my eyes he was a professional. He quite openly said that he plays football for money, not for fun.

Are we going to say ‘Au Revoir’ to Mr Assou Ekotto, or is he going to stay and fight for his place? I think once he is given another place to go, he will unfortunately leave. AVB seems to prefer his other choices at left back, so it is probably going to be time up for Benny.
