Fuel It Up – "The Glen"; Broken Legs, Broken Backs, and Betting Lines

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to Clint Bowyer driving the #15 Peak, Duck Dynasty Toyota…………….  After flipping his Sprint car last week and escaping injury, Tony Stewart was not as fortunate this week, as he was seriously injured when he once again flipped his Sprint car.  Stewart broke his leg in two different places and will require at least two surgeries to repair.  Stewart Hass Racing have replaced Stewart with Road Course expert, Max Papis, for Sunday’s Cheeze-It 355 at Watkins Glen……………  No one is completely sure how many races Stewart may miss while recuperating.  There are reports now that he will miss at least three races.  Regan Smith and Scott Riggs are two names being mentioned as replacements for Stewart……………  Kyle Petty continues to upset NASCAR drivers.  Petty said that Denny Hamlin should end the 2013 season and focus on healing his back for next season.  Hamlin’s response?  “Kyle Petty is a moron.”……………  For once the betting public has not made Jimmie Johnson the betting favorite.  Marcus Ambrose is listed at 4-1 and is the favorite to win the Cheeze-It 355 on Sunday at The Glen.  Kyle Busch, Juan Montoya, and Kurt Busch are next at 7-1, while Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are at 8-1……………  Marcus Ambrose has won the last two races held at the Glen.  Tony Stewart has the most victories at The Glen with 5……………    The Sprint Cup Car track record at The Glen is 126.421 set in 2011 and held by Kyle Busch……………  The weather forecast for Watkins Glen on Sunday calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching 78F (25C)……………    The Grand Marshall for the Cheeze-It 355 will be Brad Davidson and Darcey Macken of Kellogg’s.  Performing the Anthem will be Angie Johnson.  The race can be seen on ESPN and TSN at 1:00pm on Sunday.
