Welcome to “Fuel It Up”! The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging. In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.
The winner of this week’s paint scheme award is Kyle Busch in the #18 Peanut Butter M&M’s Toyota. Special mention goes to Jimmie Johnson in the #48 Lowes Planes Chevrolet…………… This week the series heads to Pocono Raceway for the second race of the season at the “tricky triangle”. Jimmie Johnson totally dominated there in the June race. I suspect we’ll see the #48 car near the front of the field again this week…………… Kurt Busch may run the Indy Car Series final race at the Auto Club Speedway in California on October 19th. The Sprint Cup series will run at Talladega the next day…………… Tony Stewart was involved in a spectacular crash while driving in a sprint-car race this past Monday at the Oshweken Speedway in Canada. Stewart flipped his car and the car came to rest near the fence in turns 1 and 2. Thankfully, Stewart walked away from the incident uninjured…………… Speaking of Stewart he continues to voice his support for Danica Patrick. Stewart said this week he was “proud” of what Patrick has accomplished thus far. Patrick sits 26th in points with only one top 10 finish, that coming at Daytona this past February…………… Hendrick Motorsports has promoted Doug Duchardt to Executive Vice President and General Manager. He will report directly to Rick Hendrick and President Marshall Carlson as he oversees racing operations for the company…………… In the “who’d of thunk it” department, Brad Keselowski sits in 14th position in Chase points without a victory. Last season’s champion has had a string of disappointing finishes. All is not doom and gloom however, as he sits just 13 points back from Jeff Gordon who sits in that important 10th position……………. Comedian and actor Dane Cook will serve as Grand Marshall for the GoBowling.com 400 Sunday. The Anthem singer will be Eric Lee Beddingfield. The race is scheduled to start shortly after 1:00 pm Sunday and will be televised by ESPN and TSN…………… The weather forecast for Pocono calls for mostly sunny with high in the low 70’s F (22C).
