A few days ago Robert Griffin III was cleared by the doctors to practice with some of the team. Over the past few days he has participated in many throwing drills, strength drills and conditioning drills all with Redskins teammates. RG3 said a few days ago after he got cleared by the medical staff that his knee is, “feeling good” and that his brace has been helping him out in practice. He is participating in 7 on 7 drills with the team but not playing in 11 on 11 just yet for safety reasons to protect that knee. RG3 also said in an interview that, “the pre-season is not a concern to me.” He also stated that many veteran quarterbacks do not like the pre-season either.
Last season, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was back from treatment from his big injury and he also was not present for any of the pre-season games, yet he had an amazing season. This is much different though as running back is a very different position than Quarterback. The QB runs the offence and determines how the offence plays every game. It is about timing, speed and quickness and it’s hard to get right back into the timing without any recent prior practice. Maybe RG3 can have an amazing season just like Peterson did last year coming back from injury.
Mike Shanahan and RG3 are obviously being very cautious for this knee injury by possibly not playing him in the few pre-season games. Many Redskins fans are questioning their decision on probably missing the pre-season games but they are professionals and know what they are doing and what’s best for the player (RG3) and team. Only time will tell to see if this decision was a good one.
