According to reports from @NFLONFOX, Eagles Wide Receiver Jeremy Maclin has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee.
The injury comes as a major blow to new head coach Chip Kelly and the Eagles as he is installing his offence in Philadelphia. Maclin hurt himself running drills with the Eagles today on their first day of training camp. The Eagles were running 7 on 7 team drills at the time.
“He just came off the line of scrimmage, and his knee buckled a little bit,” Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson said, via the team’s official website before learning the severity of the injury “It’s an unfortunate situation. Hopefully it’s not too bad.”
After being sent for an MRI it looks like it is that bad. Surgery on an ACL tear would likely take out Maclin for at least 4-6 months. It could mean that he will miss the entire 2013 NFL Season.
“Usually when a guy falls like that, there’s something to be worried about,” quarterback Michael Vick said.
Maclin accounted for 69 receptions, 857 yards and seven touchdowns last season. His loss would be a major blow to the up-tempo offence that the Eagles are installing this season. The Eagles first round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Maclin is entering his 5th year with the team.
