Outside sharpshooter Mike Miller certainly wasn’t out of work for very long. After amnestied by the Miami Heat, the 33-year-old swingman has reportedly agreed to a 1 year deal at league minimum with the Memphis Grizzlies. You shouldn’t feel too bad that Miller isn’t making the big NBA bucks, as the minimum is still good money by average working stiff standards, and he will be paid $6.2 million by the Heat this year.
Miller played in 59 games for the Heat this season and averaged just 4.2 points per game as his role was usurped in many ways by Ray Allen. However, Miller is still an accurate long range shooter putting up 41.7% from beyond the three point line last season. He will help the Grizzlies by adding a perimeter shooter and stretching defenses for the club. In his career, Miller is a 40.6% shooter from three point range.
The 13-year NBA veteran won back to back championships with the Heat, after signing with the club in the big spending spree of 2010 that saw the team sign Lebron James and Chris Bosh, while re-signing Dwayne Wade. Miller didn’t get the big press conference on South Beach, and wasn’t featured on an ESPN special about his Decision, but he still played an important role for the club over the last three years.
Miller returns to Memphis where he played for 6 seasons from 2002 to 2008 and has cited his familiarity with the organization, and the fact that he enjoyed his time in the city as reasons for choosing the Grizzlies from amongst several suitors that were interested in his services.
