Tottenham Hotspur Football Club announced today that they have purchased Belgian international winger Nacer Chadli from Dutch based club FC Twente. It is believed the purchase price for the 25-year-old player is £ 7 million, and that the deal will be made official as soon as Chadli agrees to personal terms with the club and passes his physical.
As far as personal terms are concerned, it has been widely reported that Spurs and Chadli are very close on a five year deal for the Belgian star who prefers to play on the left wing.
Chadli really blossomed at Twente last season, where despite the fact he was limited by injuries, he really showed his value on the pitch. Twente won 65% of their league games when Chadli was in the lineup, compared to only 25% when he was unable to play. He was an excellent goal scorer for the club with 12 goals in 17 Eredivisie matches and 6 goals in nine Europa League contests.
Chadli shows impressive pace off the wing, great size and physical attributes, and the precision to make him either a passer or a goal scorer near the net. His addition to the Spurs squad means that Andres Villa-Boas can likely move their best goal scorer, Gareth Bale, into a full time position as a featured striker in the middle of the pitch.
This is the second major addition of the summer for Spurs, who picked up Brazillian midfielder Paulinho earlier in the campaign.
