Editor’s Note: We at LWOS are always looking to add passionate sports fans to our writing team. We are very excited to welcome life-long fan of Aston Villa Football Club, Matt Lynch, to our team.
Everyone should know by now that Paul Lambert is a deadly assassin when it comes to players he does not want in his team, like telling Stephen Ireland to train with the reserve squad and Stephen Warnock and Alan Hutton before they even had chance to prove any worth. Many players deservedly got the chop from Lambert, but despite PL making it clear who he does not want, he still has most of them on the wage bill that Randy Lerner obviously wants to see drop dramatically. For me, we need to get rid of many high earners who do not play with pride, by this I mean players playing for just the money with no loyalty.
I believe we need to sell firstly, Shay Given – he still has a lot to offer to some team somewhere, but we have Brad Guzan, Jed Steer and young Benji Siegrist. The wages seem to be a stumbling block with getting Given to leave, so I can only seem him leaving if we give him a pay off.
Alan Hutton – The fans hate him, opposition hate him for his dirty foul play, and so he does not deserve to wear the Claret and Blue kit ever again. He does not have anything to offer us – we have Matt Lowton who has a fantastic first season and was arguably our best player last term.
Stephen Ireland – He has not looked right since day one as a Villa player. He is overpaid and could not care less. I do not have a clue how fans voted him player of the year for the year Alex Mcleish was in charge. He has shown small glimpses of what he could offer, but now we have better ,younger, exuberant players chomping at the bit.
Nathan Delfouneso – “Mr. Loan Man” he should be called, as he has played for so many Championship teams and has not done a fat lot. With many strikers rising through the Villa youth we can afford to let him go – he is not Premier League quality, and judging on his loan spells away at Burnley and other clubs, he is not a Championship player either.
Barry Bannan– He could have been great. He was labelled the next “Xavi”, though he is complacent on the ball and wants to play too many fancy passes when simple options show for him. He shows glimpses of ability, so if we do decide to sell him I would have a buy back price in the deal as he could become a decent player . You only have to look at Tom Ince to realise that.
Darren Bent – Fans still like him, I still like him, but he does not fit Paul Lambert’s model player – he does not work hard enough for the team and for that reason alone, well also for his eye-watering salary, he must go.
Karim El Ahamidi – I don’t particularly think he is good nor bad, it is just we have young players like Gary Gardner rising who has a better future than KEA . Maybe pre season may change my opinion on him, who knows.
Enda Stevens – He really deserves a chance at Villa, but he will not get the chance with Luna signing. Becuause of that, I believe it is worth loaning the guy out to a Championship side to grow as a player and see how it goes from there.
