The new stadium currently being built in Hamilton, Ontario will be known as Tim Horton’s Field. The stadium which is being built for the 2015 PAN-AM Games Soccer Tournament, as well as to be the future home of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats is currently under construction and expected to be ready for the 2014 CFL Season.
The city, the Tiger-Cats, and Tim Hortons called a press conference for Friday to announce the news.
The deal, which is said to be for 10 years, is expected to be the most lucrative stadium naming rights deal in CFL History, though financial details have not yet been released.
Ticats president Scott Mitchell told media that highlights of Tim Hortons Field will include Canada’s largest outdoor video board, as well as large outdoor patio space. The new stadium will also include a museum which will house memorabilia from the Tiger-Cats past.
The Stadium is being built on the same grounds that once housed Ivor Wynne Stadium, the Tiger-Cats home from 1930 – 2012. The orientation of the field is being changed however as the new field will run North-South, while the old field was East-West.
The Tiger-Cats are playing their 2013 Home Games in Guelph at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Field. The Ticats next home game is tomorrow against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as the team tries to avoid an 0-3 start.
