Reports out of German newspaper Bild indicate that Champions League winners Bayern Munich have agreed to sell German International striker Mario Gomez to Serie A squad Fiorentina for a total transfer fee of €20 million.
The fee will be paid in stages with the Florence based club coughing up €16 million immediately and the remaining €4 million over the next several years.
Gomez has been held out of Bayern’s recent matches on their summer tour in order to make sure the striker would stay healthy for a summer transfer.
Gomez, 27 years old, is a big time striker who is in the prime of his career. This season at Bayern he was extremely impressive, scoring 26 goals in 33 matches. He gives Fiorentina a top notch goal scoring threat as they hope to improve on their fourth place finish in Serie A this past season.
Gomez has become expendable at Munich due to additions to the squad over the past two years. He was looking at second string minutes at the German giants, and Gomez asked to leave to ensure he could get enough playing time to secure a spot on the German National Team ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The move frees up Fiorentina to sell striker Stevan Jovetic who has been rumored to be of big interest to a number of EPL squads including Arsenal and Chelsea.
