First, welcome to Fast Break. As you already know, the NBA is never short of drama, intrigue, and wicked performances, all worthy of making the night’s ticker. Like you, I feverishly watch the ticker, sometimes many, many times, before finally turning the channel. And when I find a few stories I like, then I’ll look into them – it’s just my routine. So what I aim to do for you in Fast Break, is give you an idea of some storylines that I looked up based on basketball tickers that I found particularly interesting. If you find any of these tickers worthy of your time, why not do a little digging – believe me, they’re worth it! So, on with show – NBA Fast Break news of the day:
The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly agreed to terms with 31-year-old free agent point guard Jose Calderon. The move likely indicates that the Mavericks will not be re-signing Darren Collison. Last season Calderon averaged 11.3 points, 7.1 assists and 1.7 turnovers per game while playing for the Raptors and Pistons. The deal is reportedly for 3 years and $29 million.
The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to terms with free agent forward Paul Millsap. The Utah Jazz relenquished their rights to Millsap after their earlier trade with the Golden State Warriors. The departure means that the Jazz’s two best players have now left, as Al Jefferson left for Charlotte on Thursday, putting Utah into a full-fledged rebuild. The Hawks meanwhile add Millsap who averaged 14.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists with the Jazz last season.
The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to terms to sign guard O.J. Mayo to a three year, $24 million contact. Mayo started off last season hot for the Dallas Mavericks, but eventually cooled off and problems with coaches made him expendable. Mayo averaged 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game for the Mavericks.
