Jarome Iginla Goes To Boston, For Real This Time

Back in April, it appeared that the Boston Bruins had acquired Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames in a trade.  However, Iginla ended up invoking his no-trade clause, and forcing the Flames to deal him to the Penguins instead.  Now the star right wing has signed with the Bruins, adding another chapter to a strange saga.

Iginla had choosen the Penguins over the Bruins believing that with Sidney Crosby and company he had a better shot at winning his elusive first Stanley Cup.  However it wasn’t meant to be.  The Penguins were swept in the Eastern Conference Finals by the very Bruins who Iginla had rejected.

The Bruins have inked Iginla to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million. Iginla will earn a base salary of $1.8 million, with a games played bonus of $3.7 million, and a $500,000 goal scoring/team playoff performance bonus.

Iginla split last season between Calgary and Pittsburgh, finishing with 14 goals, 19 assists, and 33 points in 44 games.   Over his career, Iginla has scored, 530 goals and 1,106 points in 1232 games.

Iginla replaces Nathan Horton who signed a 7 year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier in the day.

According to Cap Geek, the Bruins now have 5.2 million in cap space (and this is factoring in the bonus cushion), with star goaltender Tuukka Rask a restricted free agent and needing a contract.
