Bryce Harper Returns, Makes Immediate Impact

Bryce Harper was activated off the disabled list today, and made his first start for the Washington Nationals after missing 6 weeks of action suffering from knee bursitis.

It didn’t take Harper long to make an impact as he hit a solo home run in his first at bat of the game.  It was an opposite field dinger off of Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo.  It was Harper’s thirteenth home run of the season, and opened the scoring in the game.

The sight was a welcome one for Nationals fans, who gave Harper a standing ovation, and forced him to give a curtain call after the hit.  The return of Harper is much welcomed in D.C. as the Nationals sit in 2nd place in the National League East, 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves.  Its starting to get close to that time of year where the Nationals will need to make a run, or risk the Braves’ lead becoming insurmountable down the stretch.
