First off, I love the TNA Knockouts. I love them now in 2013, and have since their inception.
It is quite apparent that TNA gives much attention to their ladies’ division, much more so than WWE’s Divas. Impact has always seemed to feature talented ladies like Angelina Love and Velvet Sky making up the team of the “Beautiful People”. Or we can Consider some of the others we have seen over the years and what they brought to the promotion; Alissa Flash aka Cheerleader Melissa, Ayako Hamada, “The Voodoo Queen” Roxxi Laveaux, Sarita, Madison Rayne, Traci Brooks, and we can’t forget the impact of Awesome Kong. Today we see a division that is led by wrestlers like Mickie James, Gail Kim, Tara, and Taryn Terrell.
For me, I wish that Impact Wrestling would consider giving their Knockouts a weekly one hour show that could air either as a lead-in, or even a follow-up to Impact each week. If an hour saturates the market too much, fine, perhaps even an extra 30 min dedicated to the division might suffice. Maybe Spike TV would consider something like that kind of programming as an addition to their lineup.
Over the years we’ve seen some absolute classics out of the Knockouts. A memorable match occured at the Sacrifice PPV on May 11, 2008. Roxxi competed in a TNA Knockout Makeover Battle Royal against Gail Kim. It was a ladder match, and it was awesome! I remember being stunned after the match when Roxxi got her head shaved. The match itself though was a hard hitting, fast paced affair, with plenty of incredible highspots.
Fast forward to the present, as this past June at the Slammiversary 2013 PPV we saw another special match come out of the Knockouts division. Gail Kim faced Taryn Terrell in a “last knockouts standing” match. For those who watched, it was magic. Everything these two women did was epic and they really put the TNA Knockouts division back on the map, giving us one more reason (again) to keep watching TNA. Now we have a rematch to look forward to, as who knows what willl happen when Gail Kim takes on Taryn Terrell on June 29 from Vegas in a ladder match – You don’t want miss to this one!
While WWE has ignored and wasted their women’s division (sorry, Diva’s division) for years now, TNA is putting the women on the map. These girls are more than just pretty faces (though they definitely do look good), as they can actually wrestle a fast-paced hard hitting match that can be featured anywhere on the card. These girls lay it on the line and actually add real value to Impact week in and week out. Maybe it’s time the company really focused on and promoted the division, as these ladies deserve it and it could really help differentiate the product from what the boys in Stamford, Connecticut are doing nowadays.
… And that’s the Last Word.
