WBZ News Radio 1030 Boston is now reporting that an arrest warrant has been issued for New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in connection with the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Lloyd was shot sometime in the early morning hours Monday.
Hernandez is to be charged with obstruction of justice in the case following police executing search warrants at his home. There they found the security surveillance system including video cameras, and the hard drive where the evidence was recorded had been smashed. They also found that Hernandez’s cell phone was in multiple pieces, and that a professional cleaning crew had been brought in to clean the home.
While not charged in direct relation to the homicide itself. The investigation really seems to be focused on Hernandez at this point. Lloyd was found in a clearing less than a mile from Hernandez’s home. A rental car registered to Hernandez was also found at the scene. While currently the only pending charge is obstruction of justice there may be more on the way.
Lloyd and Hernandez were known to be associates. They were seen together (and with 2 other men) at a bar on Sunday Night. Neighbours also have reported hearing gunshots sometime between 3:00 am and 3:30 am Monday. Hernandez and two associates were seen returning to his home shortly thereafter.
Hernandez is reportedly living in the home with his Fiancee (and the mother of his child). It is reported that Lloyd was involved in a relationship with her sister.
The investigation into the high profile member of the Patriots has sent the Boston media into a frenzy, as they have been camped outside the Hernandez home since Monday and have even followed Hernandez around via helicopter on his daily routine.
Also on Thursday a civil suit was filed against Hernandez in Florida by a man who alledges that Hernandez shot him in the face in February.
