Welcome back to Quick Slant, the column that sorts through hundreds of headlines and brings you only the best, most interesting and downright stupid the NFL has to offer. The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines; some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid. It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day. I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels! So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:
The first step for the more than 4200 former players and family of deceased players who launched a class action lawsuit against the NFL for concealing the long term affects of concussions has its first hurdle on Tuesday. I’m completely on board with protecting players in a very dangerous sport, however, can anyone say they didn’t realize being concussed wouldn’t be good for the brain? I mean, c’mon…… And finally we get to the bottom of the proposed changes to the Pro Bowl. It looks like the NFL is looking to cash in even more by having a reality tv show about the game’s selection process. Oh, it will sell – just look at virtually every show on the NFL Network…… Here’s a tasty little bit for you; Joe Flacco will be portraying Johnny Unitas in a film. Apparently he’s in acting classes so he can learn what it’s like to be a stellar quarterback…… Peyton and Ashley Manning are set to make a donation to the Summitt Foundation to the tune of $500,000 to help battle alzheimer’s. #Classy…… So, some Jets fans and NFL pundits are looking for a resolution to the Revis situation. Sure, sounds like a plan. Oh, they also claim an intense desire for a real quarterback and running back. Okay, finding a starting big name quarterback, running back and possibly a shut down corner should be pretty easy to find many weeks after free agency began and many teams are done making moves.
That does it for today. Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
