Zero Faith, Fun in Jacksonville, and Well-functioning Brains

The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines.  Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid.  It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day.  Welcome to Quick Slant.  I created this column as my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting.  I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels!  So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:

The Bills have finally inked their franchise quarterback – Kevin Kolb. No, I have no friggin’ idea what they are thinking.  They got him for a relatively decent valuation, but knowing many fans from the Western New York area, they see this as a very short term option, and hope the team is still looking at Nassib, Manuel, Barkley or Smith in the draft. After all, Kolb was released by THE CARDINALS!……Speaking of which, I guess the Cards (looking at Palmer), aforementioned Bills (signed Kolb), Chiefs (signed Alex Smith) and the Raiders (looking at Seahawks back-up Matt Flynn) have zero faith in this year’s crop of rookie quarterbacks……(I usually support the notion of not getting rid of a guy unless you have someone as good or better, but there are exceptions to every rule.  Tim Tebow is my exception.  The J-E-T-S are going to hold on to him until after the draft.  WHY?  Ef if I know……The NFL Network has stated that it will do its best not to ‘tip picks’ in this year’s draft coverage. They said that last year and that lasted, what, 4 minutes?……Blaine Gabbert believes the quarterback competition in Jacksonville this year will be “fun”.  Ummm, no!  My son playing with his four-year old friends are allowed to have “fun”.  You are not, especially because you play in Jacksonville……The Ravens were decimated in the first few days of free agency, just in case you have just now emerged from under a rock.  Their rebuilding continues with the signing of Safety Michael Huff, who at 30 seems quite the young’n next to former Safety, Ed Reed……I’ll leave you with some more Ravens news.  Running back Ray Rice has openly criticized the new rule against offensive players leading with the crowns of their helmets.  Right on, Ray!  Who needs a well functioning brain after his playing days!?  Good for you!

That does it for today.  Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
