The Carolina Hurricanes have locked up Alex Semin to a long term deal. The talented Russian winger gets $35 million over the next 5 years or a $7 million AAV.
Semin has been excelling on the Hurricanes top line this season with 8 goals and 30 points in 30 games. He’s found real chemistry playing with Eric Staal and Jiri Tlusty.
Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford speaking about the deal stated “We’re very happy to retain Alex. Alex is an elite player and has been a major contributor to the Hurricanes having a very strong top line.”
The Hurricanes have made a major commitment to spending in the last year adding Jordan Staal and signing him to a big extension, and paying out big dollars to lock up Jeff Skinner long term.
The Hurricanes currently sit in 2nd place in the Southeast division, 4 points behind the Winnipeg Jets. The Canes do have 3 games in hand.
Semin has 499 career NHL games under his belt with 205 goals and 438 points in his career.
One person who is not surprised by Semin’s success this season is our very own writer, Max Vasilyev who took issue with Semin’s reputation last summer.
Of course no posts on Alex Semin would be complete without his greatest hits.
