The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines. Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid. It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day. Welcome to Quick Slant. I created this column as my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting. I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels! So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:
I understand that Fred Davis is meeting with Bills brass – Buddy Nix, Doug Marrone, et al. Davis was leading the Skins with 24 receptions before tearing his Achilles tendon last year. Word is Davis was excited to meet with the team from Western New York while Buddy Nix thought his meeting was with Fred Jackson. Oops……So the Urlacher saga in Chicago has come and gone. As I noted when the Steelers let go of James Harrison, I am all for shedding what a team deems “excess weight”, provided they have a suitable man to step in. In Urlacher’s case, he has certainly lost a few steps, but he was continuing from a MLB legacy left by the likes of Dick and Mike. He looked and acted the part, and was the team’s face. Let’s see who fills those shoes……People are marveling at how wonderful RGIII’s recovery from surgery has gone. He’s 23! I could pull a hammy and a groin on the same play and still get my ass out there the next one at 23. Let’s see you survive a groin pull when your 35. Pshaw!……Ex-NFL players including Roger the Dodger Staubach and Emmitt Smith addressed a large rally gathered to create awareness for domestic violence. A surprise guest made an appearance and address: Dez Bryant. Dez Bryant appeared at an anti-domestic violence rally. The same Dez Bryant who was charged for hitting his mommy. Just, wow……
That does it for today. Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
