The Los Angeles Lakers have performed some incredible comebacks this season, none more amazing then the entire turnaround of a season that looked doomed from the start. I shouldn’t really say from the start; before the season began the signing of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash rocketed the Lakers into championship contention. It went downhill from there. With the Lakers losing a large chunk of games in the beginning, head coach Mike Brown being fired and a massive amount of injuries, they found themselves in a dark place nobody expected them to be in.
Months later and behind two incredible comeback victories, the Lakers find themselves in above .500 wins for the first time in three and a half months. Kobe Bryant has performed incredible feats, Dwight Howard is finally looking like the Superman we witnessed in Orlando, Steve Nash is getting his confidence back and the team is starting to click. Collectively, this is great news for Lakers fans, but something sensational has occurred overnight; Kobe Bryant is now second on the KIA MVP ladder surpassing Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.
In the past two games, Kobe has scored forty two points and twelve assists, and forty one points and twelve assists respectively. He has individually sparked comebacks over the Hornets and Raptors, including scoring three clutch threes down the stretch against the Raptors yesterday. With the Lakers closing in on the struggling Jazz and potentially taking down the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, the Lakers are performing as a collective that could push Kobe Bryant into the leader of the MVP ladder. Although he has to get through Lebron first.
For Lakers fans who never gave up, congratulations. Kobe Bryant will take the Lakers to the playoffs and once they’re there, they have the skill-set to play ball with the best. For the rest of the team’s fans, be scared. Kobe is drunk off that vino, and he is hungry to win.
