The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines. Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid. It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day. Welcome to Quick Slant.
Like you, I peruse headlines and tickers in search of the stories written by credible writers who have some form of credentials and at least a few real “inside sources”. After all, the NFL is a serious business requiring serious reporting. I also like to have a little fun, which is why I created Quick Slant. At its core, this column is my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting. I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels! So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:
Vince Young, in an attempt to mend fences, has decided to apologize to Jeff Fisher for all his wrong-doings. He started the letter on Monday and is still writing it. The QB has an upcoming Pro Day tryout at the U of Texas…… Takeo Spikes is TKO’d by the Chargers. Apparently he’s not retiring, and is insisting he’s still got gas in the tank. I just wonder how much lead is in his feet (terrible joke. sorry) A long career and no playoff appearances, hopefully he’s next team gets him a shot to play meaningful football into January…… Jeff Saturday, set to retire a Colt, claimed that he regrets not pursuing the 16-0 record with Indy several years back. He said he was “for it” but management was against it. They were “against” 16-0? Really?……So Joe Flacco is the highest paid player in the NFL, right? WRONG! The world is right again when you consider the taxes that he pays by playing Maryland. It turns out that Drew Brees makes the most after taxes. Suck it, Joe!……David Garrard says he’d “love another chance in Miami”, Yup, I’d love to be paid a couple million to be a backup quarterback in the NFL too, but like David, I’m not good enough…. I’ll end on a serious note. An unnamed player has claimed an initiative by the NFL to help suicidal former players saved his life. With all the attention on brain injuries, we at LWOS believe this is definitely a positive step forward. Kudos to the ex-NFLers who are working with this program.
