Today I bring you a little column I will call, “Naked Chokes”. Basically it is a collection of what I feel are the most interesting storylines at any given moment in MMA, along with a little off the cuff, smart ass comment from yours truly. If there’s one thing I’ve been told I am, it’s a smart ass. So, presenting “Naked Chokes”:
Jon Fitch signs with the World Series of Fighting for four years. Jeez, I’m in the wrong business. If someone’s got a few bucks lying around, let’s just start our own MMA Series. We can call it, “Retired Ulimate Fighters”, and it could be guys way past their prime – first up, Tito vs. Shamrock or maybe Chuck Lidell, I’ll never tire of seeing Chuck beat up Tito…… Spike TV has launched a new MMA app called “Bellator” for iPhone and iPad. The app lets fans score fights, which are tallied at the conclusion and compared on tv vs. the announcers…… Nick Diaz is calling GSP “pampered”, implying he doesn’t deserve the endorsements he gets. GSP has two losses and a thousand successful defences. You have eight losses and until you can prove otherwise, you’re just GSP’s whipping boy. Go do something in the octagon, but until then, shut up…… Just when I thought I’d seen it all, a transgenderred individual, comes along and wants to fight MMA. I am all for freedom to express oneself, but really, sports needs to stop for one entire week and have some conference to get straight what division he/she will compete in. In all seriousness, this is a very, tough decision. Fallon Fox has the MMA world asking some very serious questions and ones that might go beyond the scope of MMA……. Finally, New York State‘s Senate has approved a Bill supporting legalizing MMA. The bill will not be sent to the assembly. It only took a couple decades. Cut them some slack, they’ve been busy planning the next Macy’s float and hot dog eating contest.
