Welcome to “Fuel It Up”! The racing world is chopped full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging. In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.
The coolest paint scheme for Las Vegas goes to the Amp Energy 88 car. Check it out on Junior’s car on Sunday… Suspended Nationwide driver Jeremy Clements has been sent to a psychologist by NASCAR. Clements was suspended by NASCAR for using the “n” word in an interview with a MTV reporter at Daytona. While I don’t condone racism, this seems a little much to go to a psychologist, but perhaps there are other underlying issues here… Speed Channel is going off the air on August 17 and is being replaced by Fox Sports 1. While no longer being a racing only channel, they will continue to feature NASCAR type programing among their sports format including coverage of NASCAR practice sessions……. NASCAR had two Sprint Cup practice sessions on Thursday, Matt Kenseth and the no. 20 car came out the fastest in session number one,…. Greg Biffle will run a Red Cross paint scheme this weekend and will speak about the importance of donating blood. He is also scheduled to visit a local area hospital……. Marie Osmond is scheduled to sing the National Anthem prior to the Kobalt 400. Yes, apparently she does still sing. Only time will tell if Donny shows up as well – fingers crossed, eh?……. In keeping with the “washed up” theme, Tim Allen is scheduled to serve as Grand Marshall – are we sure this is the Kobalt Tools 400 and not Binford Tools? Are we sure this is 2013 and not 1997?….. Weather for Sunday is forecast to be sunny and windy, with highs near 70. It should provide great conditions for racing.
