Sam Reinhart, 20, was able to bag himself a hat trick on Sunday when the Buffalo Sabres traveled into the Great White North up to Winnipeg to face the Jets. Reinhart’s hat trick against the Jets brings his season tally up to a total of 12 goals and 19 points, heralding the arrival of what is to be a superstar career.
Sam Reinhart: The Next Superstar
This year is coming as a breakout season for Reinhart, as he spent the majority of the 2014-15 season playing for the Kootenay Ice of the WHL, where he was able to rack up an impressive 65 points (19-46-65) in just 47 games, with seven of his goals coming on the power play. Last season saw Reinhart make only nine appearances for the Sabres and net just a single point, as well as only three appearances for their AHL-affiliate, the Rochester Americans, and getting three assists in those games.
Now, some may look at his first year post-draft and say it was a waste of a year, but with all of the ice time he saw for Kootenay he was able to hone his skills and come on strong this year. Reinhart is a player to watch for many years to come and is definitely going to continue to improve on the numbers he’s posted in the past seasons and this season alike, especially since he’s now playing alongside players like rookie stand-out Jack Eichel. With these two young, talented forwards leading the charge for Buffalo it’s an easy assumption to make that they have some of the most exciting youth in the league.
Sam is a native of North Vancouver, BC, Canada and was the 2nd overall pick of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, only being selected behind defensive phenom Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers. He is the son of former NHL player, Paul Reinhart, and the brother of Griffin Reinhart of the Edmonton Oilers/Bakersfield Condors and Nashville Predators/Milwaukee Admirals forward Max Reinhart.
