Peyton to be Released – Are You Really Surprised?

Not being a big Peyton Manning fan, or a fan of any of the Mannings for that matter, I really find myself not caring too much when I read that Peyton Manning will be officially released by the Colts on Wednesday morning.  The team will not pick up his $28 million bonus, electing to let the 4-time NFL MVP sign with another team.

I don’t think this comes as a huge surprise to many.  Actually, one could see it written in the stars only a few months into the 2011-12 season when we knew that Indy would finish last, and considering a certain college pivot who is entering the draft this summer – yeah, that guy!

Cooper Manning (yeah, I said the same thing – who?), Peyton’s eldest brother, confirmed with USA Today’s Jim Corbett that ESPN’s report that Manning would be released by Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Such is the nature of professional sports.  Manning, while aging in football standards, is still more than serviceable, and has plenty of gas in the tank.  So, who will pick up the first-ballot Hall of Famer?  Miami, Arizona, New York (Jets) or Seattle?  Someone else?

Feel free to chime in below.

…and that is the last word.
