Premier League or La Liga: Which is Better?

Premier League or La Liga: Which is Better?

As both Spain and England prepare to come head to head in a friendly that could well determine whether Gareth Southgate lands the Three Lions job permanently, both nations are reeling from poor performances in their previous two tournaments, after group stage exits in the 2014 World Cup and slumps in France last summer. But, although both countries may be letting their fans down when it comes to international competition, their domestic leagues are doing as well as ever. The La Liga currently boasts the last three Champion League winners along with the two best players of their generation, whilst the Premier League is more unpredictable than ever before. But, whilst both leagues have their own set of advantages and disadvantages, which is the best?

Competitiveness

Although teams playing in both the Premier League and La Liga are very competitive with each team going for the winning spot, the Premier League is described by many football fans as being the most competitive and dramatic of the two. The Premier League is undoubtedly very entertaining to watch or take part in, whether you attend the games in person, watch with friends at your local pub or bar, or even watch from home. Even Spanish football fans agree that the Premier League is more exciting and has the most passionate fan group.

Better Players

When it comes to which league has the better teams and players, many will agree that La Liga is the winner here. According to The Mirror Football, the Premier League has more flawed teams than La Liga, although this does lead to football which is arguably more entertaining to watch and exciting to take part in, for example by placing bets with Ladbrokes Mobile. Since 2000, Spanish clubs have so far won 26 European trophies, whilst English clubs are still far behind with just seven.

Unpredictability

One of the main problems with La Liga for the fans is that it can be very predictable. Just a quick glance at the La Liga table shows that Barcelona and Real Madrid are once again taking the top spots, a scenario that has been much the same for the past few seasons. With the Premier League, however, each season can be very surprising in the way that it ends up. For example, Leicester’s surprise win last season left bookmaker’s reeling after cashing out huge odds, and this season, Liverpool FC, who haven’t had a win in over two decades, are currently top of the table.

Quality

Although the Premier League can be very entertaining to watch and of course you will want to support your favourite team, the quality of the football simply cannot be compared. This is evident with the number of trophies that Spanish teams have won so far when compared with English teams, and the fact that Spain is home to some of the best football players in the world, for example Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Luis Suarez. According to experts, the Premier League has some catching up to do when it comes to quality.

Premier League or La Liga?

Although it’s hard to argue with the fact that the Spanish league is the one picking up the best results and showcasing the best quality football right now, the predictability of La Liga can take some of the fun out of it. Although La Liga is definitely worth watching if you want to follow some of the best players at the top of their game, the Premier League is the place to be if it’s excitement, competitiveness and unpredictability that you’re looking for.
