Jaden Schwartz Out with Fractured Ankle

The St. Louis Blues have announced that forward Jaden Schwartz has had surgery to repair a fractured ankle.  The injury means that the star left wing will be out for at least the next 12 weeks, at which point he will be re-evaluated.

Its a major blow for the Blues who have had a great start to the season.  Schwartz had 28 goals and 63 points in 75 games for the Blues last season.  He has been a highly productive member of the team since joining the club in the lockout shortened 2012-13 season.

Below is the team’s official press release.

Blues forward had surgery Friday; will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has placed forward Jaden Schwartz on injured reserve after Schwartz suffered a fractured left ankle during practice Friday.

Schwartz is scheduled to be re-evaluated in 12 weeks.

Schwartz, 23, had posted four assists and a plus-4 rating through the Blues’ first seven games this season. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound forward was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round (14th overall) of the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.

He has produced 139 points (62 goals, 77 assists) in 214 career regular season games and seven points (two goals, five assists) in 18 career postseason outings.
