John Moore Suspended 5 Games

As expected, New York Rangers defenseman John Moore was given a suspension by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety today. Here’s TSN’s Bob McKenzie with the details:

Moore faced an in-person hearing with the NHL after receiving a match penalty for a hit to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula during the the second period of the Rangers game against the Wild in Madison Square Gardens on Monday.

This is the second suspension for an illegal check to the head for the 23-year-old Moore. He sat for two games after hitting Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise in the head during the Eastern Conference Final last year, making Moore eligible for repeat offender status and a longer ban.

So far this season Moore has zero goals, one assists and 10 penalty minutes through nine games with the Rangers.
