Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Dan Uggla, The New San Francisco Giant

Here we are, the second half of our beloved baseball season, a time where some fans can only hope that their favorite team can keep up their momentum, whereas other fans are thinking of what to sacrifice to the baseball gods in hopes that their team doesn’t become the most embarrassing part of the 2014 MLB season. As the start of the second half of the season begins so do the trade rumors. Huston Street was acquired by the Angels from the Padres. Every team is after the smokin’ hot second baseman, Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies and every team is trying to avoid the acquisition of the once red hot Dan Uggla of the Atlanta Braves.

One team known to make season changing acquisitions are the San Francisco Giants. Brian Sabean has been known to be a clutch negotiator so to speak, with such acquisitions as the 2010 game changer that is Cody Ross to the ever inspiring Hunter Pence. Yes, Sabean has saved seasons for the SF Giants ball club and also the sanity of the SF Giants fans, thanks Sabes, we’re totally grateful.

With Sabean’s magical skills brewing in the front office, the SF Giants faithful could only imagine who might don the championship colors of orange and black, who’s going to have a locker next to the two-time no hitter and Cy Young recipient, Tim Lincecum or “Perfect Game” Matt Cain or the grand salami himself, Madison Bumgarner? One thing definitely missing in that star studded locker room is a healthy and reliable second baseman. with Marco Scutaro’s not fully healed back injury (SIA Profile), the Giants have gone through more second basemen than Jennifer Lopez has gone through relationships.

Who better than to fill this very evident hole in the Giants lineup than Chase Utley? His batting average of .343, his 105 hits and his stellar defense is exactly what the Giants need to get the solidity back both offensively and defensively. With this talent comes a big asking price. then there’s Dan Uggla of the Atlanta braves, batting a average of .162, the Braves are willing to pay the $18 million just to get him off the roster and make room for someone else.

So, who do the San Francisco Giants acquire? The most obvious decision, Dan Uggla, I say obvious because Uggla was an absolute free acquisition and is going to Triple A Fresno and not the big leagues and hey, this wouldn’t be SF Giants baseball without a little torture and some faith in the magic of Brian Sabean.

As a life long Giants fan, of course I face palmed, of course I went to Twitter and ranted because I wanted my fellow fans to express their pain as well. After my social media temper tantrum, I of course sat back and restored my faith. Uggla isn’t too hot right now, but he’s going to the minors to brush up on his mechanics, he’s completely free and oh, did I mention he’s completely free? So, rest your heads and your hearts you wonderful fans, you and quit bargaining with the baseball gods and remember, Brian Sabean always has something up his sleeves.
