BREAKING: The #RedWings have signed Jonathan Ericsson to a six-year extension.

Ericsson has come a long way since being the “Mr. Irrelevant” of the 2003 NHL Entry draft. The 9th round, 291st overall pick has spent his entire career with the Red Wings, and has played 292 career games with 14 goals, 48 assists and 62 points.

The 29-year-old has become an important part of the Red Wings blueline, as he is second on the team in average ice-time amongst blueliners with over 22 minutes per game.  He has scored one goal, four assists, for five points and is a plus three in 15 games this season. Ericsson could have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

More to come.
